We test, gently, exactly where the joint stops.
For joints that feel stuck, tight, or slow to move: precise, hands-on movement that helps your body remember how to glide again.
What It Is
A knee that catches on the stairs. A shoulder that stalls halfway overhead. An ankle that won’t fully flex no matter how long you stretch it. That’s rarely a muscle problem. It’s the joint capsule itself, tightened by an old injury, a surgery, or years of simple disuse.
Joint mobilization is hands-on: your physical therapist applies slow, graded pressure directly to the joint, sometimes with a strap or tool, to coax that capsule back open. It’s controlled and precise, never forced past what you can comfortably handle.
You’re the one who’s already stretched it every morning before anyone else is up, hoping it would finally loosen. That discipline was never the problem, the capsule was. Mobilization targets the exact restriction stretching alone can’t reach.
Graded, hands-on pressure
What It Helps
If a joint feels stuck no matter how much you stretch it, the restriction is often in the joint itself.
What A Session Looks Like
1
We test, gently, exactly where the joint stops.
2
Hands-on pressure opens the glide, no forcing.
3
We retest and give you motion to keep at home.
Why It Works
Restores motion stretching alone can’t reach.
Eases stiffness without forcing through pain.
Targets the joint capsule itself, not just the muscle.
Sets up strength work to actually hold.

Questions, Answered
Joint mobilization shouldn’t be painful. You may feel pressure or a stretch as the joint moves through a restricted range, but your physical therapist stays within a range that’s uncomfortable at most, never sharp or forced. You’re in control the whole time, and the pressure is always adjusted to what you can tolerate.
Stretching lengthens a muscle. Joint mobilization works on the joint capsule itself, the tissue that surrounds the joint and can tighten after an injury, surgery, or simple disuse. Instead of pulling on a muscle, we apply graded pressure directly to the joint to restore its natural glide.
It depends on how long the joint has been restricted and why. Some people feel a real change in range of motion after one or two sessions. A joint that’s been stiff for years may need a longer course paired with strengthening.
