Weeks 1–2
Pain
Calm the pain down.
Hands-on techniques calm the irritated tendon and take the edge off inflammation, starting your very first visit.
What We Treat
The sharp catch when you reach behind you to grab a seatbelt. The shoulder that’s gotten so stiff you’ve stopped reaching overhead altogether. It’s fixable, and it starts with a cause-first evaluation, not a guess.

Why It Happens
Your shoulder doesn’t act up for no reason. It’s usually some mix of a few culprits: a rotator cuff tendon that’s strained and irritated, a joint capsule that’s tightened up and started freezing, shoulder blade muscles that weakened and stopped stabilizing the joint properly, and impingement from tendons getting pinched every time you reach overhead.
None of that gets sorted out by resting on the couch. It takes a real, cause-first evaluation to find which pattern is actually driving your pain. That’s why generic shoulder stretches so often fall short: they treat the symptom, not the source. Find the real cause, and the fix gets obvious.
You’re the weekend athlete who plays through it: the round of golf, the rec league game, the yard work that always seems to need something overhead. Which is exactly why you keep bumping the appointment, and exactly why you’re still reading this.
The Honest Truth
Nobody regrets starting too early. Every week, someone in our clinic says they regret waiting.
How We Fix It
Every plan has an endpoint. Here’s what the four phases look like for a shoulder.
Weeks 1–2
Pain
Hands-on techniques calm the irritated tendon and take the edge off inflammation, starting your very first visit.
Weeks 2–6
Prime
Targeted mobility work restores overhead reach in a joint capsule that’s been quietly tightening up.
Weeks 6–10
Perform
Progressive rotator cuff and shoulder blade strengthening builds the stability your shoulder was missing in the first place.
Weeks 10+
Prevent
Overhead lifting and throwing mechanics get tested under real load before you’re cleared to go all-in: that’s the endpoint, not just another appointment.
I have been going to Mid-County PT for various issues, back and shoulder, over the years. The care I have received has helped me immensely to have a better quality of life. Their staff is professional and friendly as well.

Questions, Answered
Usually not right away. A hands-on evaluation with specific strength and motion tests can identify a rotator cuff strain or impingement pattern with good accuracy. If something suggests a larger tear that needs imaging or a surgical opinion, we’ll help you get that referral, but most shoulder pain responds well to targeted therapy first.
It can be, especially if you’ve lost motion in every direction, not just overhead. Frozen shoulder moves through predictable stages, and the right hands-on approach at the right stage makes a real difference in how long it lasts. The sooner we identify the pattern, the sooner we can start working against it instead of just waiting it out.
A full plan for shoulder pain runs through all four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform, and Prevent, typically over 8–12 weeks, depending on whether it’s a strain, impingement, or a stiffer frozen shoulder pattern. Either way, you get a plan with an endpoint: you’ll always know which phase you’re in and what’s left, not an open-ended string of appointments.
