Weeks 1–2
Pain
Calm the pain down.
Hands-on techniques calm the irritated bursa, tendon, or joint and take the edge off inflammation, starting your very first visit.
What We Treat
The pinch in your hip crease every time you get out of the car. The knee that doesn’t trust the next stair. It’s fixable, and it starts with a cause-first evaluation, not a guess.

Why It Happens
Your hip and knee don’t hurt for no reason. It’s usually some mix of a few culprits: irritated bursa or tendons around the hip, a kneecap that’s tracking slightly off course, hip and glute muscles that weakened and stopped supporting the joint above and below, and years of cumulative load finally catching up to cartilage that’s worn thinner than it used to be.
None of that gets sorted out by cutting back on walks. It takes a real, cause-first evaluation to find which pattern is actually driving your pain. That’s why generic stretching so often falls short: it treats the symptom, not the source. Find the real cause, and the fix gets obvious.
You’re the one who refuses to slow down: still mowing the lawn, still taking the stairs, still saying “I’ve got it” when someone offers to carry something. That’s exactly why you’ve put this off, and exactly why you’re still reading this.
The Honest Truth
Nobody regrets starting too early. Every week, someone in our clinic says they regret waiting.
How We Fix It
Every plan has an endpoint. Here’s what the four phases look like for hip and knee pain.
Weeks 1–2
Pain
Hands-on techniques calm the irritated bursa, tendon, or joint and take the edge off inflammation, starting your very first visit.
Weeks 2–6
Prime
Targeted mobility work restores motion in the hip and knee that’s been quietly guarding the injury.
Weeks 6–10
Perform
Progressive hip and quad strengthening builds the stability your joint was missing in the first place.
Weeks 10+
Prevent
Running, squatting, and stair mechanics get tested under real load before you’re cleared to go all-in: that’s the endpoint, not just another appointment.
I am currently using Mid County Physical Therapy for much needed physical therapy on my leg and hip. They are very professional, supportive, and friendly also. I would recommend them to anybody.

Questions, Answered
Some wear and tear is a normal part of aging joints, and plenty of people with visible wear on an X-ray have little to no pain. Strengthening the muscles that support the joint often makes a bigger difference than the imaging suggests. A hands-on evaluation tells you what’s actually driving your specific pain, wear included.
Not usually, and complete rest can actually make hip and knee pain worse by weakening the muscles that support the joint. The better approach is adjusting your training load and mechanics while we address the underlying cause, so you stay active while you heal instead of starting from zero afterward.
A full plan for hip and knee pain runs through all four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform, and Prevent, typically over 8–10 weeks, depending on how long you’ve been dealing with it. Either way, you get a plan with an endpoint: you’ll always know which phase you’re in and what’s left, not an open-ended string of appointments.
